Things to do

Natural Surroundings

We’ve driven past the sign to the Wildflower Garden countless times on our way to Waverley, but have never visited. However, in these strange, Covid times, now seemed the perfect opportunity to give it a try, as it was outside and, therefore, easier to social distance.

The entrance is via a single doorway, straight into the cafe. Fortunately, there is a one-way system in place, and copious signage to manage the flow of people. We paid for our admission to the garden and ordered lunch at the same time, then went and sat at a (socially-distanced) table to await our food.

The food did take a little while to arrive, but it was worth the wait but, to be fair, this was largely due to the care being taken to be covid-safe, so we didn’t mind the wait. Besides, there are definitely much worse places to have to while away the minutes; the view of the gardens from our table were stunning.

After lunch, we ambled around the gardens. Absolutely beautiful and, I guess a large part of their ethos, absolutely teeming with wildlife (butterflies and bees were especially numerous; I think the amazing weather we’ve been experiencing this year may have something to do with that!

I won’t describe the gardens in detail here – I have attached some photos. Instead, go and take a look yourselves. It was a very relaxing place to be, with the adding (big) bonus of lovely lunch, great coffee and a couple of thick slices of cake to take away at the end of a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
