    Chai-Yo thai restaurant, Sheringham

This was our second visit to this Thai restaurant on the main high street in Sheringham…and it’s fast becoming a favourite. When your two children plead with you to “go to the Thai restaurant” you tend to go along with it! To be fair, it’s not a hardship for the adults; the food is lovely, and the welcome is very warm. Our children were well looked after by the staff (although, of course, impeccably behaved!) The restaurant was quite busy, but the service level was maintained throughout. We had a selection of dishes, including Pad Thai and a chicken red…

    Cakes and art from Alby

Today, on the way back from a trip to High Altitude in Norwich, we decided to stop off at a favoured haunt to pick up some cakes. As always, the cakes were excellent! This time, however, we also picked up a lovely piece of original artwork to adorn Waverley.  This boat was by Emily Thorncroft, who just happened to be manning the shop, Gallery 10, as she does most Tuesdays, and was happy to chat about her and others works in the shop. I’m so glad I said nice things about these pictures before I knew they were hers! There…

Lovely lunch at the Corner House tea rooms

Lovely lunch at the Corner House. Between us we scoffed down egg mayonnaise sandwiches, a ham and cheese toastie and a jacket potato with cheese and beans, all of which where fab.  But we weren’t done yet! We followed that up with a fresh scone with jam and cream, a bakewell slice, a huge slice of Victoria sponge and a slab of coffee cake! This definitely isn’t fast food as everything is cooked fresh to order, but it is certainly worth the wait! Tables are available inside and out.

    Alby – lunch and cakes!

After a very enjoyable visit to Alby last year, we stopped by again for a spot of lunch and to pick up some cakes. We were not disappointed! The highlights were the chunky chips cooked to perfection, and the amazing side salads. Portion sizes are generous and, in our opinion, worth every penny. A great way to round off, what was a fabulous visit to Waverley Cottage. Our daughter was particularly excited we managed to get the table with the blackboard top and chalks in the pockets (exactly as it says on the tin – if that makes no sense, visit…

More fab food at the Neptune

Not strictly “local” to Waverley Cottage, but worth an honourable mention, and definitely worth a visit! We’ve been going to the Neptune Inn once a year for about 7 years now, and it is always one of the highlights of our year. We go for the food, but really enjoy the comfortable rooms and laid back ambience that Kevin and Jacki offer. This time was no exception. Yet again, a lovely dinner (followed by coffee and cinnamon doughnuts in the bar afterwards – what a treat!) and then we woke up to, what I still maintain, is one of the…

Alby Craft Centre and Tea Room

We weren’t really sure what we expected to find at Alby. For me, the craft Centre part of the name was a bit of a put off, but I was wrong. We spent a very enjoyable hour or so pottering around the various artist workshops and galleries before heading out into the garden. We couldn’t quite believe our lucky with this October sunshine! The gardens cost £2.50 each to enter, but it was well worth the money – the gardens were beautiful – very enjoyable to step through, even this late in the year. I can only begin to imagine…

    Pretty Corner Tea Gardens

Although we’ve been travelling up to East Runton for over a year now, this is our first visit to the Pretty Corner Tea Gardens. And we were not disappointed. The weather improved just as we sat down at one of the terrace tables (unfortunately right next to a door which lead to, what we assume was a dishwasher, so there was a little unwanted noise, but not enough to detract from the experience. We know which tables to choose next time!) and we chose a light lunch from the menus (there is also an extensive specials board as well). On…

    Constantia Cottage. Yum!

Me, Abby and Littley went back to Constantia Cottage for a second time, and we were not disappointed! The food is nice, but the welcome is incredible! On both occasions, Littley was allowed to dance on the dancefloor to the greek soundtrack. Because there was not a special greek night on, she had the dancefloor to herself!
