    Going home, via Felbrigg Hall

It is places like Felbrigg Hall that justify our NT membership. We have been here several times before, and never disappointed. On this occasion, we popped in on our way home from Norfolk. We didn’t go into the house this time (Littley is a little too young to appreciate it) instead heading for the walled gardens. As always, they are maintained to an exceptional standard, but it is really pleasing to see that these are also working gardens, with a large assortment of fruit and vegetables being grown. We were particularly interested in how well the squashes were growing (such…

    Rockpooling on East Runton Beach

Having spent a rather windswept, but pleasant morning at Mundesley Beach, we headed back to Waverley; Thea was getting tired. As we approached the ice cream van, she rallied (!) so we gave in and had one. Each! We sat at the top of the cliff, looking down towards East Runton beach as the sun came out. By this time, the ice cream induced sugar rush was had finished its work on Thea – she was raring to go. So, we dropped down onto the beach so that we could paddle our feet in the sea for a little while.…

    Blickling Hall

On a blisteringly hot day, we decided to go to NT’s Blickling Hall, near Aylsham (check), about 25 minutes drive from East Runton. This is a very grand house, the home of a former [check], and significant as the property which started the NT’s donated-estates portfolio. Although we did pop our heads inside hall itself, Littley was still a little too young (there is a vast array of child-friendly activities, including a period dressing up box for children a little older than 2), we spent the majority of our time there in the gardens. We enjoyed a picnic lunch and…

    Amazona. Amazing!

It’s quite a small zoo, but this is actually an asset. It is small, but perfectly formed, nestled, as it is, in a lovely woodland (or forest!) setting. e were lucky enough to visit on beautiful summers day with hot sunshine, so the shade afforded by the tree canopy was very welcome The most important aspect of any zoo, however, is the animals and at Amazona, they seemed to be very contented in large, well thought out enclosures (not a lot of concrete on display here). The animals seemed to be active, well kept and, well, happy! As was out…
